TIME International’s cover story this week delves into the looming crisis facing China as its population grows old before it grows rich
About the One Child Policy, one doesn’t know from which aspect to start shooting. If you starts with Sibling Rivalry, One Child might be good, but please give a try. This is a policy without even considering the aftermath.
Selfishness. When selfishness becomes a default emotion, and one thinks he/she deserves everything because this is what ones parents proved to. Ego-centric, narcissistic, and so on. One Child Policy swept out the tradition of respecting the elders, and exaggerated the tradition of loving the young.
Socially disabled. High rate of divorce between two single childs. Zero tolerance. Problems are rushing out of universities, dorms, and other working places. Ask why one poisons the other under the same roof of the same class in the same university, simply because what I cannot take should not exist.
Burdens. As single child, we bear more than we could carry. Emotionally, it is just too much. We have as many choices as we want only if we follow parents’ lead, because there is no one else beside us.
More and more.
